Dr. Neelan J. Marianayagam is a board-certified neurosurgeon with advanced fellowship training in spine and trauma surgery. With an academic and clinical background that spans some of the most prestigious institutions in the world, Dr. Marianayagam brings a global perspective and cutting-edge expertise to the diagnosis and treatment of complex spinal and neurological conditions.
Dr. Marianayagam earned his Doctor of Medicine from Tel Aviv University’s Sackler Faculty of Medicine and holds a Ph.D. and M.Phil. in Chemistry from the University of Cambridge. He also holds dual Bachelor of Science degrees in Chemistry and Biological Sciences from the University of California, Irvine. Further deepening his medical foundation, he completed a Master of Science in Biomedical Sciences (Neuroscience) at Tufts University and earned an Executive MBA from the Quantic School of Business & Technology.
His extensive surgical training includes a general surgery internship at Duke University Medical Center and neurosurgery residencies at Rabin Medical Center and Shaare Zedek Medical Center in Israel, where he served as both Senior and Chief Resident. He then pursued highly specialized clinical fellowships in neurosurgical oncology and skull base surgery at Yale New Haven Hospital, followed by neurosurgical oncology and stereotactic radiosurgery training at Stanford Hospital & Clinics. Most recently, he completed a dedicated clinical fellowship in spine and trauma neurosurgery at Stanford University School of Medicine and Santa Clara Valley Medical Center.
In addition to his clinical work, Dr. Marianayagam has served as an Instructor in Neurosurgery at Stanford University School of Medicine and conducted research in artificial intelligence applications in neurosurgery at Stanford’s Neurosurgical AI and Machine Learning Laboratory. His research has earned him recognition as one of the “Most Published” physicians on Doximity (Top 10%) and election to the Sigma Xi Research Honor Society.
Dr. Marianayagam is a Fellow of the European Board of Neurological Surgery (FEBNS) and holds medical licenses in California and New York. He is an active member of multiple professional societies, including the American Association of Neurological Surgeons, the Cervical Spine Research Society, and the Society for Neuro-Oncology.
